Viara Kandjeva co-founded Borina Publishing in 1990. She is a writer, editor, phtographer and script-writer.

​She is the author or co-author of the books: ‘Beautiful Natural Sights in Bulgaria’ (1984), ‘Natural Landmarks in Bulgaria’ (1986), the children’s stories ‘The Wonderful Journey of Kapka’ (1992) and ‘Adventures in Geography’ (1993), ‘The Land Called Bulgaria’ (2003), ‘Bulgaria: Known and Unknown’ (2004), ‘Koprivshtitsa: History and Architecture’ (2005), ‘Monasteries in Bulgaria’ (2009), ‘The Rila Monastery: the Thousand-Year Old Holy Cloister’ (2010). She is the compiler and co-author of the ‘Chess Encyclopedia’ (1988), the script-writer of the popular science film ‘In the Throat of the Devil’ (1986) distinguished with a Special Award by the jury at the 9th Festival of Films of Subjects in Speleology and Adventure held in Chapelle en Vercors in France and an award from a similar festival in China. She traveled tens of thousands of kilometers throughout Bulgaria in exploring, photographing, describing and popularizing in magazines, newspapers, books and TV films the unique Bulgarian nature and its rich cultural and historical heritage. She was born in the city of Bourgas on the coast of the Black Sea. She holds a degree in Geography from the University of Sofia ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’.

Antoniy Handjiysky

Antoniy Handjiysky co-founded Borina Publishing in 1990. He is a writer, photographer, art director and cave explorer.

He was one of the organizers and an active participant in the expeditions to the deepest known at that time Karst precipices and sophisticated cave systems in the world: Gouffre Berger in the French Alps, 1969 and Pierre Saint Martin in the Pyrenees, 1973 and 1976.​He is the author or co-author of the books: ‘The expeditions Gouffre Berger-69 and Pierre Saint Martin-73’ (1977), ‘Cloisters in the rocks’ (1985), ‘Natural Landmarks in Bulgaria’ (1986), ‘The Stone Shields of Bulgaria’ (1988), ‘The Land Called Bulgaria’ (2003), ‘Bulgaria: Known and Unknown (2004), ‘Koprivshtitsa: History and Architecture’ (2005), ‘Pazardzhik: nine millennia of civilization’ (2005), ‘Bulgaria: the land of treasures’ (2006), ‘Bulgarian script: an European phenomenon’ (2008), ‘Monasteries in Bulgaria’ (2009), ‘The Rila Monastery: a thousandyear old holy cloister’ (2010). He is also the script-writer of popular science films of the series ‘Treasures of Bulgaria’ of the Bulgarian National Television: ‘Amidst darkness and water’ (1978), ‘Cloisters in the rocks’ (1979) and ‘The Stone Shields of Bulgaria’, parts 1 and 2 (1982). He was born in Sofia. He holds a degree in Geography from the University of Sofia ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’.
